The film begins with a parasailing accident that leaves a teenage boy named Eric Kirby (Trevor Morgan) stranded on Isla Sorna, an island off the coast of Costa Rica where InGen, a biotechnology company, had created dinosaurs for their failed Jurassic Park project. Four years later, Eric's parents, Paul (William H. Macy) and Amanda (Téa Leoni), hire Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), a renowned paleontologist who had survived the first Jurassic Park incident, to guide them on an aerial tour of the island. However, they do not tell him their true intention of landing on the island to search for their son.
