How to Get Wii Games Legally

Now that you have downloaded and installed Dolphin emulator on your PC, you might be wondering how to get Wii games to play on it. The best and legal way to get Wii games is to rip them from your own Wii console using a homebrew application and a USB drive. This way, you can backup your Wii games and play them on your PC without damaging the original discs. Here are the steps to get Wii games legally:

  • First, you need to install the Homebrew Channel on your Wii console. The Homebrew Channel is a software that allows you to run unofficial applications and games on your Wii. To install the Homebrew Channel, you need to have an SD card, a computer, and an internet connection. You also need to know the system menu version of your Wii, which you can find by going to the Wii Settings and looking at the top right corner of the screen. For example, 4.3U means system menu version 4.3 for USA.

  • Once you have the SD card, the computer, and the internet connection, go to and select your system menu version from the drop-down menu. Then, enter the MAC address of your Wii, which you can find by going to the Wii Settings, then Internet, then Console Information. Check the box that says I'm not a robot, and click on Cut the red wire.

  • You will see a page with a link to download a file named letterbomb.zip. Click on it and save it to your computer. Then, extract the contents of the file to the root of your SD card. You should see two folders named private and boot.elf on your SD card.

  • Eject the SD card from your computer and insert it into your Wii console. Turn on your Wii and go to the Message Board. You should see a red envelope with a bomb icon on it. Open it and follow the instructions on the screen to install the Homebrew Channel.

  • After installing the Homebrew Channel, you need to install another homebrew application called USB Loader GX. USB Loader GX is a software that allows you to rip, load, and play Wii games from a USB drive. To install USB Loader GX, you need to have a USB drive with at least 4 GB of free space, formatted to FAT32 or NTFS.

  • Once you have the USB drive, go to and download the latest version of USB Loader GX. You will get a file named USBLoaderGX_Vx.x.x.zip, where x.x.x is the version number. Extract the contents of the file to your SD card. You should see a folder named apps on your SD card.

  • Eject the SD card from your computer and insert it into your Wii console along with the USB drive. Turn on your Wii and launch the Homebrew Channel. You should see a list of homebrew applications on your SD card. Select USB Loader GX and press A to start it.

  • Once USB Loader GX is running, you will see a menu with several options such as Install game, Load game, Settings, and more. To rip a Wii game from your Wii console, insert the game disc into the disc slot and select Install game from the menu. You will see a progress bar showing how much of the game has been copied to your USB drive.

  • After ripping a Wii game from your Wii console, you can eject the game disc and select Load game from the menu to play it from your USB drive. You can also adjust various settings such as video mode, language, cheats, and more by pressing 1 on your Wii Remote while loading a game.

  • To convert a Wii game from your USB drive to an ISO file that can be used by Dolphin emulator, you need to use another software called Wii Backup Manager. Wii Backup Manager is a program that allows you to manage and convert Wii games on your PC.

  • To use Wii Backup Manager, go to and download the latest version of Wii Backup Manager. You will get a file named WBM_Buildxx.zip, where xx is the build number. Extract the contents of the file to a folder on your PC.

  • Open the folder and double-click on the Wiibackupmanager.exe file to run the program. You will see a window with two tabs: Files and Drive 1.

  • Click on Drive 1 tab and select Active Drive from the drop-down menu. Choose your USB drive that contains your ripped Wii games.
